The Sitting Room University

The Sitting Room University is an educational collective currently operating predominantly in contemporary art spaces and other such cultural venues. We facilitate fully participatory spaces for non-hierarchical discussions and workshops on a range of topics. The Sitting Room University is an exercise in pre-figurative politics and aims to provide participants access to knowledge, skills and theory that might otherwise, for a multitude of reasons, prove difficult to access.

The Sitting Room University is not entirely theoretical or academic in its focus. We aim not only to cultivate analytical and theoretical skills, but also to facilitate directly practical knowledge: suggesting new ways of saying, making and doing.

The SRU is facilitating a workshop to collectively design and build a media hub for Landmark Seizures based around the Raspberry Pi and incorporating ‘hacked’ computer and electronic hardware.
